Formula SAE is a collegiate design competition organized by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) International. This design series is geared toward university-level automotive engineering projects, including an electric division, FSAE Electric. FSAE Electric features a weekend-long design competition for university teams to compete in their student-crafted electric race cars with each other. At the FSAE Electric competition, race cars are judged on their compliance with rules, student design, business sales presentation, and on-track performance.
Formula Slug entered FSAE Electric in the Fall of 2015, producing our first electric vehicle, FS-0. Since then, FS-1 and FS-2 have been developed on a two-year design cycle, with FS-2 passing mechanical inspection!
We are currently working on FS-2 before we begin designing FS-3 on a one-year design cycle.
FS-2 is our most recent design, developed from 2022 to 2024. The car competed at the SAE Formula 2024 Competition in Michigan and passed mechanical inspection! Currently, Formula Slug is continuing to work on FS-2 in preparation for the development of FS-3.
Pictured is FS-2, which has been worked on throughout the summer.
FS-1 is the second racecar designed by Formula Slug from 2017 to 2019. The car competed at the SAE Formula Electric 2019 Competition, marking the second time Formula Slug went to competition. FS-1 was recently scrapped for parts in preparation for FS-2, our most recent racecar.
Pictured is FS-1 being prepared for the first drive.
FS-0 is the first racecar developed by Formula Slug back in 2014. Even though the car did not compete, it was an important learning journey as the team navigated through various obstacles, including the novelty of everything they were manufacturing.
